About Alexander Mercury – Actor and Public Speaking Coach

An actor’s toolkit, built for the boardroom. Alexander Mercury brings his screen work and over a decade of coaching to founders and executives who need to speak with impact.

    On screen

Alexander has recently appeared in Secret Service (ITVx) opposite Gemma Arterton, A Spy Among Friends (BAFTA-nominated) and the award-winning Industry (HBO). Working on set means performing under pressure, on camera, often with little time to prepare – exactly the conditions many leaders face in interviews, pitches and presentations.

    In the coaching room

Alongside acting, Alexander has coached accent reduction and business communication for over a decade. He works with founders, executives, entrepreneurs and content creators, in London and online.

Trusted by Synthesia, Condé Nast and Coventry Lawyers.

    The approach

His approach leans on kinaesthetic learning, not showmanship: clarity of thought under pressure and presence without performance. You learn by doing – breathing, moving, speaking and rehearsing – rather than by collecting theory.

Every engagement starts with a diagnostic of how you land on camera, on the call and in the room. From there, the work moves through body and breath, vocal foundations, vocal archetypes, communication frameworks and storytelling, and finishes with rehearsal of your real situation.

    Why an actor?

Actors are trained to be believable. That doesn’t mean pretending – it means being fully present, knowing what you want from the moment and using voice and body to deliver it. Those are the same skills that make a pitch convincing, an interview relaxed and a keynote memorable.

Your audience may not remember what you said, but they will definitely remember how you made them feel.

    Why practice beats theory

Reading about confident delivery doesn’t change how you sound when your heart rate goes up. The only reliable way to perform well under pressure is to have already done it – many times, in conditions close to the real thing. That is why every session is built around doing: you speak, you get feedback, you try again, and you notice the difference straight away.

This kinaesthetic approach means the skills live in your body, not just your notes. When the moment comes, you don’t have to remember a list of tips. Your breathing, your voice and your structure are already there, so you can pay attention to the people in front of you instead of to your own nerves.

It also means progress is visible. Recording yourself before and after shows you what has changed, which builds the kind of confidence that lasts beyond a single event.

    Who he works with

Alexander’s clients are people whose work depends on being understood and believed: startup founders raising money, C-suite executives leading teams and boards, entrepreneurs selling their business in person, and content creators who want to feel natural on camera. Many are preparing for a specific moment – a pitch, a media interview, a keynote or a job interview. Others simply know their delivery doesn’t yet match their expertise and want to close that gap for good.

    What working together feels like

Sessions are practical and direct. You will speak more than you listen. Alexander gives honest, specific feedback and then asks you to try again, so you feel the change rather than just hear about it. The atmosphere is supportive but focused – the aim is for you to leave each session able to do something you couldn’t do at the start.

Sessions run in person in London or live on Zoom, and the online course lets you keep practising between them.
